Human Trafficking Awareness Course

Every year, 18,000 - 20,000 victims are trafficked into the United States, and more than half are children, according to the United States Department of Defense. And it can happen anywhere. As a beauty professional, you are uniquely positioned to sense a client’s physical safety and well-being. If you’re trained in what to look for, YOU can make a difference. In this course, learn how to spot the signs, provide resources and reassure your clients that you care about their safety and well-being.

  • Why should I take this training course?

    Whether you are a student, recently licensed, or seasoned professional this training course is for you. With around one hour of time spent learning, you will understand everything that you need to know to be an ally for your clients. The dangers of human trafficking are everywhere and you can learn to part of the solution.

    Upon completion of the course, you will receive 1 credit towards your Milady RISE Certification. To complete and receive this certification you’ll also need to take the Infection Control (2-Hour) Course and Domestic Violence Awareness (1-hour) Course.

  • How long is this course?

    The training course should take you anywhere from 20 minutes hours to 1 hour depending on your current learning style and how long you take to practice what you learn. You may take the course at your own pace, stopping and starting as it fits your schedule.

  • How is the course structured?

    There are 4 lessons in the training course with an assessment at the end of each lesson as well as a final exam. You must pass the final exam with a score 70% in order to obtain the Certificate of Completion.

  • Does the certification ever expire?

    Yes. Milady understands the importance of always pursuing knowledge and refreshing what you learn in an effort to make sure that professionals are best prepared for every situation that arises. With an important course like this, you should always have the best up-to-date information on how to handle the situation and fight against human trafficking for your clients’ well-being.

  • Where do the proceeds of this course go?

    We donate one-third of the proceeds to the Polaris Project, the organization behind the Human Trafficking Hotline.

    The rest of the funds are used to partially offset costs of running two programs:
    1. RISE Partner School program. Provides FREE access to Human Trafficking Awareness, Domestic Violence Awareness, and practical Infection Control to beauty program students through their school.
    2. RISE Scholarship (managed by the Professional Beauty Association). A yearly fund of $10,000 (two entry periods, twenty $500 scholarship recipients per year) for students and industry professionals who completed all three courses and got RISE Certified in Client Well-Being and Safety.
